PRAYERS

Tuesday, October 1st – Rosie Alexander
My name is Rosie Alexander and one of the most meaningful scripture passages to my life is Philippians 4: 4-7. It reads:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.

Rejoicing in the Lord and showing my gentleness is easy when things in my life are going well. However, when times are tough, it is so difficult not to be anxious or fearful. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I continued to read as Paul instructed his readers to be thankful in ALL situations and present our requests to God. How could I be thankful for situations that might involve illness, money, relationships, or concerns about my children? Also, how could I petition God without wanting immediate answers that were the answers I wanted! I then realized, according to this scripture, that the answers I requested were not the point. What Paul seems to be saying to me, is that God will deliver us peace in our circumstances by promising to guard our hearts and minds as we travel through the journey. Reflecting on so many times, I did recall when a certain calm came over me and I felt at peace. I have heard many of my friends say the same. That is where being thankful makes sense to me. Whatever the situation, I am thankful that God is near and that He is guarding my heart and mind. Thanks be to God for his marvelous grace.

Key Word: Prayer

Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I am so thankful that you are always with me. You are protecting my heart and my mind with a peace that I cannot begin to understand. Help me to rejoice in You always and show a gentle spirit.
Amen
